Pendrell

A veces no me reconozco.

Before I start, a picture is worth a thousand words - oh, wait, this one comes with its own wording!

It's a curious case, that of very well-known patterns that have a brand recognition level on par with that of McDonalds (in the sewing community, obvs). The Macaron and all Colette's are a good example of this, just say their name and everyone knows them. Then again there's people who can identify the Burda issue just looking at a finished garment* - impressive.

The Pendrell blouse is a good example of this, for over a year I've seen the 3 versions in all the colours of the rainbow. Plus the detailed sew-alongs, which are an excellent source of information, especially if you're learning to sew.

I got this pattern last year and it's been sitting in a drawer waiting its turn, till last May. The fabric is a stretch rayon I got with this specific project in mind. Pink and flowers? This is the new me - that person that wears frequently a FLOWER PRINT PINK top. Sometimes I don't recognise myself.

Nevertheless, I love this top, LOVE IT. Since its first outing in Barcelona I've worn it almost weekly, much to the dismay of Mr. Bullock, who obviously can't reconcile my usually postmodern image with someone who wears, let's face it, flowers and pink. C'est la vie.

I love those weird sleeves, that are sewn in the princess seam - and that you should sew carefully and symmetrically *ahem*.

I'm not going to fully review the pattern, there are thousands of them in PR, but it is a good pattern, it really is. Just 2 minor issues: this pattern is long, really long. I cut it off 10 cms. and still covers my behind, so you may want to check the length. And I'm not sure about the sizing (I traced it so long ago I don't remember which one I used, but I did follow the measurements table). I know it's a loose fitting top, no closures and all that, but I could have easily gone down a size. Back shot, now that we're at it.

Conclusion: it's my first Pendrell but not the last one. Next: the double ruffled version.

*True story: "This dress is from Burda May 2010, right?" - this people do exist.

  1. Very cute! I tried the Pendrell once but I didn't pick a very good fabric (not enough drape) so later I took the sleeves off, but your drapy fabric looks great with the sleeves.

  2. LOL. For real. When I saw the colors I thought, hmmm, that doesn't seem like her. But, nevertheless, I loves it. This is one of the two patterns from Tasia that I'm very interested in. Nice job!
